The Shadow Man Tour

PAGE TURNER BOOK TOURS PRESENTS…

Shadow Man (Lash Series Book #2)
When a renegade vampire begins amassing followers, threatening America’s vampire hierarchy, weresnake Lash partners with old enemies and new allies to annihilate them. Betrayed and left for dead, Lash reemerges the victor, catching the eye of the sultry nightclub singer Cassandra Nile, even as enemies close in from every side.

A huge thank you to M.M. Shelley for having me here today!

I’m here today to promote Shadow Man, the second book in my paranormal action adventure Lash series.

VAMPIRES IN THE LASH SERIES

Vampires in fiction can run the gamut of sweet and lovable to homicidal maniacs. Sometimes they can appear to be both, like Anne Rice’s Louis, Armand, or Lestat. Vampires appear in dramatic Lash series, playing the roles of both protagonist and villain Without further ado, let me introduce you to the main vampires of the Lash series.

• Abraham Hamilton – Referred to by Lash s his “vampire boss,” Abraham administers New Orleans as part of the vampire ruling hierarchy. He meets Lash in the 1920s, and the two become close friends. While definitely a gentleman that values honor, justice and fairness, Abraham is also ruthless, shrewd, and capable of killing…like all of my paranormal characters.

• Valerian – Lash’s main antagonist since being burned with magic fire that scarred his beautiful looks, Valerian is a child killer that enjoys torture, as well as a former member of the vampire elite. Driven into hiding, he plots revenge on not only the weresnake that burned him, but everyone that Lash calls family or friend.

• Jacob – Valerian’s replacement as Abraham’s boss, Jacob is also a hater of women who trusts almost no one other than vampires he himself has made. Using them as his sole guards, he stays mostly at his estate, as he’s a coward at heart. Initially he is Lash’s enemy, but relents and joins forces with Lash out of fear of Eli and his followers in Shadow Man.

• Eli – A vampire preacher who is determined to overthrow the existing vampire hierarchy and bring equality to all his kind, Eli amasses close to a thousand followers with his message of peace and brotherhood…until Lash is summoned to stop him.

• Devlin Dalcon – Leader of the American vampire elite, Devlin is powerful, breathtaking, and also rumored to be unstable after holding his throne for over a hundred years. Lash and he begin a friendship that ends when Lash finds out how unscrupulous that Devlin can be. But when tragedy strikes in Shadow Man, Devlin is the one that saves Lash from certain death.

• Danial Racklan – Devlin’s brother and a detective by trade, Danial is intelligent, resourceful, and nurturing a grudge against Lash. While they will have to work together to stop Eli, Danial has a backup plan to take care of his foe as soon as Eli himself is dust.

Blurb:
A renegade vampire begins amassing a flock of true believers, threatening America’s vampire hierarchy. Weresnake Lash partners with old enemy Danial and new allies Burl and Spiderboy to track down and annihilate them. Betrayed and left for dead, Lash reemerges the victor, edging ever upward in the Assassin’s Ranking, and catching the eye of the sultry nightclub singer Cassandra Nile. Drawn into drugs by Cassie, Lash begins to doubt himself, yearning to leave his life of violence, even as enemies close in from every side.

Excerpt:
I went through the door, and felt a bullet slam into me like mule kick in the chest. I crumpled to my knees, just to feel another hard kick right above the first one.

I toppled over backward and crawled inside, a few bullets kicking up dust as they hit the dirt near me. I’d dropped my gun outside, but I pulled my spare and waited, alternating between watching the door and the one uncovered window.

Five minutes passed, and then a burning torch sailed in the window to land on the bed. I bolted up, hearing the lead bullets my body had pushed out of me fall to the floor, and stomped on the fire, trying to put it out. If it caught the cabin on fire, I’d be toast, or shot full of holes when I fled the burning building. I had to stay here until dark, at least. I cursed myself for not calling Burl and telling him I was going back here. I knew he’d have come with me, if I’d asked him to. And then I cursed myself again, because through all of my questions to Eli, I’d never asked who had driven the trucks full of vampires for him when they’d escaped the first time from Louisiana. It was a sure bet that the non-vampires who had were the same ones outside this door, waiting to fillet me for killing their leader, and I had no fucking clue if there were two or twenty of them. Fuck!

The rest of the day passed like a thousand years. I was tense as a spring, and every sound was like a footstep coming closer, every creak of the settling house like a hand on the doorknob, ready to pull open the door. I waited motionless, my muscles aching. But nothing else happened.

I finally stretched a little, being very careful to stay close to the floor. I wasn’t na├»ve enough to think that whoever was out there had just left. Most likely, they were watching for signs of movement so they could fill me full of holes.

Finally, it was night. I changed to snake, even though I was freezing, because I needed my snake hearing to try to find out if any of the men outside were sneaking up on me. I waited for a time, but nothing happened except I got colder and colder in my snake form, my blood flow slowing to a crawl. Eventually, I knew I either had to move or die.

Slowly, I slid out of the open window, scenting the air, trying to make no noise, thanking God there was no moonlight to expose me. I knew my black and tan scales blended in very well with the dirt and rocks, so I just had to get to the woods and I’d be out of the open. From there, I could make it back to my truck and my spare guns and ammo, not to mention a clean pair of warm clothes.

But before I’d gone two feet from the cabin, a huge form rose up out of the dirt in front of me, dirt sliding off its scales from where it had lain in wait for me.

I moved immediately to slither away, but I was too slow from the cold to evade him. Before I knew it, I was being crushed in his coils, his huge body wrapping around me like a lover. Despair washed over me, because I knew the scent. Hell, I’d trusted it!

I reared back my head and sank my fangs in deep, pumping venom into Burl’s body. He let out a loud hiss of pain, but he didn’t let me go. Even though I kept giving him poison, he squeezed me tighter. I bit him again and again, but he just kept squeezing.

“Why?” I hissed weakly, taking my mouth off him. “I thought we were friends.”

“We are,” he hissed gently. “And stop biting me, Lash. I’ve taken an antidote for your poison. All you biting me does is piss me off. I’m trying to make this not hurt you more than it has to. Relax and stop struggling.”
